Dr. Abigail Purens was born and grew up in Chicago, before leaving to complete her bachelor's degree at Cornell College in Iowa. She moved around the country several times before completing her Master of Public Health and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 2020. She returned to the Chicago area and completed a residency at University of Illinois at Chicago before joining the Hinsdale Animal Hospital team. Dr. Purens is USDA-APHIS accredited, Fear Free certified, and a member of the AVMA and CVMA. She is interested in surgery, shelter medicine, dermatology, and the human-animal interface.

In her spare time, Dr. Purens enjoys hiking and exploring locally and further afield with her partner and three children. They're working their way through the National Parks! At home she's also an avid knitter, baker, and gardener.
